Opening the Door to Creativity - Winnie Ferguson A workshop focusing on exploration of the creative process with
several media exposures. Five week workshop June 11, - July 9, 2008 9:00AM-10:30AM $125 includes materials
This five week workshop will lead the participant through a journey of media investigation using drawing, painting, collage and mixed media. The course is open to adults at all levels and will explore the media through personal insights of each student. The instructor has many years of experience as an art educator and art therapist and offers a broad variety of experiences to group members. All supplies will be provided by the instructor. Group members will explore both media and the expression of self in their work. Emphasis on the process can free the artistic development in all levels of art. Plan to dress for comfort and relaxation for this class. I am a retired art educator and art therapist with many years teaching experience in both the public schools and at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Since moving to N.C. I have found time to paint and enjoy both oils and acrylics. During my student years I majored in the usual art media plus jewelry and fibers.

Introduction to Colored Pencil - Donna S. Slade, CPSA Sunday and Monday, August 10th & 11th 10:00 - 4:30
Cost: $215 per student for both days Limit: 6 students
This 2-day workshop is designed to introduce colored pencil techniques and terminology via
exercises that demonstrate pencil pressure, cross-hatching, modeling, grisaille, blending,
color mixing and layering. Participants will complete a simple painting using the techniques
practiced in the exercises. Students do not need prior colored pencil experience. Some drawing
would be helpful. Will provide supply list upon registration.
Donna's passion for art has taken her from a 30-year award-winning career in commercial art,
advertising, design and illustration to recently becoming a full time painter. Donna has earned
local and national recognition, winning many fine art awards in solo and group exhibitions.
Donna's work has been published in The Best of Colored Pencil and The Best of American Pastel
Artists & Artisans, Volume 1. Donna is a charter and signature member of the CPSA (Colored Pencil Society of America) and (two) time president of the North Carolina District Chapter of CPSA.

Fused Glass - Jean Cheely 3rd Monday of each month First Class May 19 1:30-3PM $60
Create your own art glass pendant. This informative class will teach you the basic principles for fusing glass in a kiln. Then you will create 2 glass pendants using a variety of dichroic patterns on a black base of glass. The class is limited to 6 students. All supplies are included in the class cost.
Jean Cheely is a glass artist who works to maximize the play of light using color, texture and shapes to display the beauty of the glass. Her studio includes two kilns where she fires glass to create decorative and functional pieces of art glass including bowls, plates, platters, art panels and components for her unique jewelry. Her commissions for custom work include windows in private homes as well as two windows for Sanderson High School and custom fused art glass and jewelry. She is an instructor at The Pullen Arts Center in Raleigh and was the featured artist at Pullen Arts Center in May, 07. Cheely is a member of The Fine Arts League of Cary and Cary Gallery of Artists

Take a journey and explore the still life - the perfect geometry of an apple, orange or pear, intricate patterns in brightly colored fabrics, and the abstract quality of nature's shapes .By setting up objects with a single light source we will work on translating what you see in front of you on to the canvas. Paying special attention to the interplay of color temperature, negative and positive shapes, textures and reflected color. The possibilities of Still life are endless! Everyone's personal vision of a still life is unique. Some Art experience required.
Colored Pencil Portraits / People or Pets - Patricia Pittman 6/4/2008- 6/25/2008 Wed. 7 - 9 PM $125

Have you ever wanted to paint a portrait of someone special, a child, parent or friend?
Even if you are a beginner with no drawing experience you can achieve this with colored pencils, a photo, and the use of a light box or transfer paper. Then using step- by step shading of color be able to finish a painting. If you can sign your name then you already have the small motor skills necessary for this class.
Colored pencil is one of the most versatile art tools; it can simulate oils, acrylics or pastels. It is a clean and simple art form for people with a busy lifestyle. You don’t need a big studio, an easel, or tons of supplies. All you need are pencils, a sharpener, paper and erasers. Easy to transport and non-toxic. Can be used around small children and animals.
Come join me and explore an understanding of a rapidly growing art form that is soothing, relaxing and fulfilling.

Patricia Pittman loves translating the beauty she observes around her through art. She creates in several mediums, including colored pencil, oil, acrylic and pastel. She has focused much of her artistic career on the classical approach to oils used by the masters, and continues to be fascinated by the human form.
Patricia has been juried into Local and National/International Shows. Last year she was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society’s 2007 15th Annual International Exhibition in Bethesda, MD. She has had her work published in CPSA To the Point – Magazine of the Colored Pencil Society of America. Drawn to Colored Pencils- the January 2005 Cary News and selected work on Marvin Mattelson’s website- WWW.fineartportrait.com.
Patricia’s work is in the Permanent Collections of First South Bank and Duke Raleigh Hospital. She has numerous colored pencil and other portraits in Private Collections in NC, MD, TN, MS, and Israel.

Take a workshop designed by an abstract and contemporary art professional! This 4 week course is designed to incorporate contemporary, abstract, and mixed media elements into 4 unique classes. Learn how to work with acrylics, acrylic mediums and pastes, metals, fibers, paper, glass, mesh, memorabilia, adhesives, etc! In this workshop, your imagination is your biggest tool as it will be based on what each individual wants to capture in their painting. Abstract and contemporary art allows you to move away from the restrictions of a printed picture, reproduction, or a still life and instead, letting your life experiences, favorite designs or decor be your guide. Mixed media supply list will be available based on your creation after the first class.
Nicole Hanner is a member of the Cary Gallery of Artists, Fine Art League of Cary, Visual Art Exchange, as well as owns and operates the Art N Design Gallery of Cary. Nicole regularly exhibits and designs corporate art in the Triangle area. Nicole has a MBA degree, Bachelors in Marketing and Advertising, and was schooled in fine art academia.

Porcelain painting classes: Lynn Patton offers a small class in the age old art of porcelain painting. She has an introductory session of two classes ($50), which may then continue into series of four or six classes. All classes are three hours.
