From my earliest memories, drawing, painting and creating played such an important part of my life that I didn’t think of it as developing into in a job; it was just what I did. Then came the day, in high school, when I had to decide what I was going to do. I’m so glad that I had parents willing to let me follow my passion. I received a BFA in Art Education and taught public school for a few years but then I found arts programming and was hooked. I could teach art, talk art, eat, sleep and drink art as I set up art classes for others to follow their passions. Because programming requires an understanding of materials, I explored a variety of media including ceramics, enameling, textiles, printing, drawing and painting. During that time, I received a master’s in design with an emphasis in textiles. Now, after over 30 years of providing arts opportunities for others, I have retired to focus on my work and my personal statement.
My work depicts my delight of the every day though still-life, landscapes and animal portraits. I work in a variety of media, currently focusing on oils, watercolor/pen and ink, and drawing media. I feel the medium influences the message, so I choose a medium to guide the viewer’s response to my intent. What unifies my work is an underlying structure that speaks to my design experience; sensitivity to realism; and rich, vibrant color that adds spontaneous energy. All work is original though I use photos as reference and a grid system when painting something where accuracy is paramount (e.g. portraits of pets). I accept commissions.
