Felting is the process of compressing fibers into a nonwoven fabric. The Art of Feltmaking is the creation of objects during the felting process. Cynthia creates 2D and 3D art objects as well as wearables including hats, scarves, and purses, most commonly from sheep’s wool, mohair, angora, alpaca and silk.
Cynthia has studied with local, national, and international feltmakers and is a member of several felting guilds and organizations. Her work has been juried into both textile shows and fine arts shows and most recently won 1st place in the Durham Arts Guild’s 55th Annual Juried Show. Along with the Cary Gallery of Artists, Cynthia’s work can be seen at the Green Hill Center for Art in Greensboro.
Cynthia enjoys any opportunity to demonstrate or teach felting and believes creating public awareness of the process and sharing the potential of this medium are ongoing opportunities. Cynthia looks forward to sharing more about this art form with visitors to the Cary Gallery.
