Artist Statement
I am enamored with the amazing qualities of watercolor and its ability to behave in ways other mediums cannot. With a deep love of discovery, I enjoy pushing the boundaries of watercolor and painting in non-traditional as well as traditional methods. I am inspired by nature and have a passion for color. Using a limited palette, I enjoy the thrill of mixing a multitude of colors from just a few tubes of paint. My sincere desire is to impart a sense of joy and wonder to those who stop and observe my artwork.
Artist Bio
A native North Carolinian, Cathy is a nature-inspired artist with a love of travel. Visiting new places always provides her with inspiration. The precious, indigenous lands of national parks have been a muse for much of Cathy’s work.
Cathy has had a lifelong affinity for art. As a teenager, she followed in her mom’s footsteps as a needle arts artist and worked at her mother’s needle arts studio, the Scotch Bonnet. She took art classes in college to balance the math and science courses of her nutrition major. As a young adult, she dabbled in acrylics and during her nutrition career she was trained in food photography for her professional nutrition blogs. For decades, Cathy has used the colors of the color wheel to educate clients about foods with the most nutritional benefits, those being brightly colored vegetables and fruits (ROY G BIV).
Cathy’s watercolor journey began with her first watercolor class in 2013, and it was love at first brush stroke. Upon retirement from her corporate nutrition career, she dove headfirst into her new life as a watercolor artist. A perpetual learner, Cathy has grown as an artist through countless watercolor classes from Master watercolorists worldwide.
An award-winning artist, Cathy enjoys painting abstracts, landscapes, urban scenes and still lifes with some dabbling in urban sketching.
