At the age of four, Jan’s mother taught her how to draw stick figures and from that moment on she was hooked on Art!  Her father recognized her art ability and decided to challenge Jan at age 13 when he purchased a pen and ink set and asked her to draw a picture. He joked and said he was going to enter the finished drawing in the State Fair. True to his word, Jan’s father followed through with his promise and entered the piece in the State Fair where she won Third Place. After that, Jan gained the necessary confidence to explore all mediums including acrylic, pastel, watercolor and oils and has been painting ever since.

Jan’s current passion is acrylic painting concentrating in impressionistic style. Although she considers herself mostly self taught, she has taken several art classes at Johnston Community College, Wake Technical College and has taken classes with Lynn Keenan.

Jan resides in Raleigh with her husband, Greg and two daughters, Taylor and Lauren. Since retiring with the State of North Carolina, it has been Jan’s mission to share her creative spirit with others. Recently she volunteers her time teaching Seniors Citizens how to paint at a local Assisted Living facility.   To her surprise her first class included her mother who is the one ultimately responsible for her love of art today!

"Art is the window to your creative self, ever changing and always evolving. Painting creates a gift from me to you."
